Potential high-voltage line crossing the Rock River Basin

Please read this written statement from our board about the BECI Project:

Midcontinent Grid Solutions Wisconsin, LLC, has proposed building a large, high-voltage line through central Wisconsin, the so-called BECI Project, with significant potential impacts on communities, farmland, wetlands, and the Rock River and its tributaries. The 765 kV line – the first of such capacity in the state – would stretch about 190 miles from the Illinois border and connect major substations in south central Wisconsin to substations near Minnesota 180-foot towers erected in about 200 feet of easement. The route has not been finalized and the Wisconsin Public Service Commission has yet to approve the project, but we encourage our members to educate themselves on the project and its potential impacts on the basin. The RRC Board has not taken a formal stand on the project, but we are concerned about its potential impacts and are currently monitoring and analyzing available information.
