Working on environmental issues is challenging in the best of times. Successes are few and far between, and often success is just keeping environmental damage to a minimum. Under the current administration, these challenges have reached a crescendo – large funding cuts, required relocations, reductions-in-force, and accusations of fraud and abuse. Federal employees, particularly those in environmental fields, are being targeted – to demean the work they do and to undermine support for their agencies and their Congressionally-approved missions.
The board of the Rock River Coalition would like to acknowledge several truths: federal employees in environmental fields are vital to the protection of our natural resources; the work that they have undertaken under prior Democratic and Republican administrations is being undermined; and, ultimately, the resources they have endeavored to protect are being damaged or destroyed.
We want federal employees to know that they are not alone. We hear your concerns. We sympathize with your struggles. We applaud your efforts to minimize the damage to your agencies and the places, people, and environments that you work to understand and protect.
Please do what you need to protect your health and well-being. We appreciate all that you have done and will continue to do on our behalf.
